Biafo and Hispar Glaciers Expedition

The Biafo Glacier and Hispar Glacier together stretch for a total length of 126 kilometers, making them the longest glaciers outside the Polar Regions. These two magnificent rivers of ice meet at the 5,150-meter-high Hispar Pass, forming a spectacular natural highway of ice and stone that links the ancient kingdoms of Nagar in the west and Askoli (Little Tibet) in the east.

Historically, this route was widely used to connect the Silk Route with the Indian subcontinent, China, and Tibet. In 1937, the English trekker H. W. Tilman claimed that he had seen yeti footprints on the glacier. This same trail once served as an invasion route for the people of Hunza into Askoli, and later became a lively connection between the two regions, as people from Hunza often crossed over to Askoli to play polo with the locals.

This unforgettable adventure concludes in the stunning Hunza Valley, often called the Valley of Eternal Youth, known for its breathtaking beauty and progressive people. In Karimabad, you can visit the historic Altit and Baltit Forts, and enjoy panoramic views from the rooftop of Baltit Fort—an experience that remains etched in every traveler’s memory.

The people of Hunza are also famous for their longevity, which has intrigued researchers for generations. According to glaciologists, the Snow Lake in this region has a snow depth of about one mile, an astonishing natural wonder. Wildlife enthusiasts will find this area fascinating, as it is home to rare and endangered species such as snow leopards, Himalayan bears, ibex, markhor, and occasionally even the elusive Marco Polo sheep.
