Nestled at an elevation of 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) in the Lulusar-Dudipatsar National Park, Dudipatsar Lake is often referred to as the "Queen of Lakes" in Northern Pakistan. The name itself, derived from the local words "dudi" (white), "pat" (mountains), and "sar" (lake), aptly describes its breathtaking setting: a stunning greenish-blue alpine glacial lake encircled by towering, snow-clad peaks.
The lake and its surrounding high-altitude alpine meadows offer a landscape of unparalleled natural beauty. In the summer months, from June to September, the snow melts and the area transforms into a vibrant, lush green paradise, carpeted with wildflowers, while the mirror-like water of the lake perfectly reflects the majestic mountains, creating a scene right out of a painting.
A Trekker's Paradise
Reaching this hidden gem is an adventure in itself. The 18-kilometer (11-mile) trekking trail starts from the small village of Besal, a town accessible by road from Naran. The journey is a moderate to difficult hike that takes several hours, involving steep slopes, numerous stream crossings, and even small glaciers in early summer. For first-time or less fit trekkers, it's often a two-day journey with an overnight camp at Mulla Ki Basti, a small settlement along the way.
